How to replace a computer mouse? The future is now!

The corporations are creating the future. I propose a fairly simple “innovative” solution that helps in working with computers. All you need is to replace the mouse-type pointing device with a pen on a graphic tablet (like the Genius G-560 or the Wacom Bamboo One).

Please do not confuse graphics tablets with devices such as iPad. A graphics tablet (pen tablets) is only a device for entering information into a computer.

Scary stories about carpal tunnel syndrome from working with the “mouse” will not frighten. The pen and tablet is simply more convenient in work, and the hand gets tired much less and gets tired more slowly. Tablets are inexpensive – because you do not need a professional model for drawing. You can even take used.

Working with windows of the operating system, editing photos, selecting and copying text – all this improves significantly. In addition, the pen is equipped with a rocker button, which can be programmed to perform the functions of the right and left mouse buttons. If you purchase an advanced model, then on the tablet itself there will be several function keys and a touch ring. All this economy can also be adapted for work with the operating system or program (quick access to applications, switching between windows or minimizing / maximizing windows).

Changing the mouse on the tablet in my case occurred unnoticed. Editing photos and doing video editing, I once noticed that I interact with other applications (not related to graphics) using the stroke of a pen. Yes, games such as Mashinarium, Angry Birds or Tiny Bang Theory, are simply created for the tablet (the “Evil Birds” are not exactly created for the mouse, having originated as an iPhone application). For a week or two you will have a desire to grab the mouse (so remove it from the table!), And then you will begin to smoothly move between graphical, text, browser applications with increased comfort.

Using the “pen” is very easy to transfer blocks of information in applications such as Power Point (or any equivalent), site designers or Illustrator. You can do it with the mouse, of course, but then expect constant fatigue of the hand (feeling of tension in the muscles) with the subsequent development of unpleasant diseases (still scared!).

It’s impossible to conduct with a pen, as in the case of Nintendo wireless joysticks or Mezzanin chopsticks, it’s still a tablet tied to the surface, but the beginning is the hardest. Do you know what else reminds pen control? If you or your children played the first game of Harry Loss, then there is a task to draw certain characters on the screen with your mouse to activate the spell. Here gradually interact with the computer and turn into drawing certain characters.

If you use the Opera browser, you can go even further into the future. After all, Opera has long been offering gesture control with the mouse. But we replaced the mouse on the tablet. Will it work? It will work, but there is one difference. When the gesture control in the browser is enabled, then pressing and holding the right mouse button will cause a large black circle in which possible actions will be entered. A simple gesture offers one movement with a manipulator, a complex one is divided into several movements.

When using a tablet, on which you clamp the analog of the right mouse button, this window does not appear, but the gestures work. The disadvantage is that you have to memorize the initial combinations. If you hold the pen and then move it in any direction, a circle appears with gestures of the second level. For owners of the touch screen I inform you: you can do the same with your finger!

Goolgle Chrome also has gestures. Put the extension Smooth Gestures and try to forget about the “hot keys” and clicking on the buttons. The application has a manual (icon “wrench” – tools – extensions – smooth gestures – settings). There you can see the standard gestures or come up with your own.

I don’t specifically touch the subject of handwriting. Windows 7 supports it for all applications (that is, you can actually take and write an article or a website address). But this topic is big and separate. Moreover, it is necessary to touch on the Mac OS with iOS, and not forget about Android.

The mouse-type manipulator is over 40 years old. This anachronism is time to send to the landfill. However, the attack on the conservative “crutch” is on all fronts. Changing desktops to laptops teaches users to the touchpad, touchscreen tablets of tablets (no longer graphical, but full-fledged) are taught to interact with the interface with their fingers. Gradually wins naturalness.
